Mission
Edgewood Community Farm is a nonprofit urban farm in Washington, D.C. advancing food justice and addressing food insecurity in Ward 5 and across the city. We grow and share fresh produce, flowers, and mushrooms; offer hands-on urban gardening resources; and function as free, shared green space where neighbors gather, learn, and connect across racial, income, and generational lines.
Our work centers lower-income residents, elders, students, people of color, and queer community members who are often underserved by traditional food systems, and engages in practices that strengthen social determinants of health, including access to nutritious food, outdoor space, education, and community connection.
Founded in 2022 through a partnership between Edgewood residents and the Discalced Carmelite Friars, the farm has grown into a shared community space rooted in food access, sustainable land stewardship, and cultural memory—where food, land, and local history help build connection and a sense of place.
