Group Volunteer Days

Request to Schedule a Group Volunteer Day

Bring your team to Edgewood Community Farm for a hands-on volunteer experience in the heart of Northeast D.C. Group volunteer days are a chance to get outside, work alongside your community, and directly support a space that gives everything back. Every vegetable, herb, and flower grown at the farm is donated to the local community through our open harvest policy and volunteers are welcome to harvest produce, herbs, and flowers during their visit.

Your group's work helps us maintain the farm as a free, accessible greenspace and supports our partnership with ReDelicious, a free weekly grocery distribution program we host on-site.

1. What You'll Work On

Tasks vary by season and ongoing projects. No experience necessary -- all tools and instruction are provided.

Cultivation and growing: planting, transplanting, pruning, weeding, starting seedlings, and other seasonal growing work

Grounds and infrastructure: mulching, light carpentry, staining, painting, and general upkeep to keep the space beautiful and accessible

2. Logistics

  1. Group size: Minimum 10 volunteers

  2. Age requirement: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old

  3. Lead time: Requests must be submitted at least 30 days in advance

  4. Rain or shine: Volunteer days happen in most weather -- we'll only cancel in cases of severe conditions and will notify your group in advance

  5. Parking: Zoned and unzoned street parking is generally available nearby

  6. Transit: Less than a 12-minute walk from the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station and several bus lines

  7. Lunch: Groups coordinate their own lunch. You're welcome to grab food at the nearby Bryant Street Food Hall or arrange a lunch order and eat on-site

Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty or painted on. We also recommend bringing bottled water, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, and any other sun protection.

3. Suggested Donations

We ask that groups make a donation to help cover staff time and supplies. No group will be turned away due to an inability to donate. Please reach out and we'll work something out.

  1. Community-based organizations and nonprofits: $10 per person

  2. Alumni groups and professional associations: $35 per person

  3. Corporations and businesses: $75 per person

4. Smaller Groups

Have fewer than 10 people? You're welcome to join our free weekly volunteer days every Sunday.
